If you are at the beginning of your Japanese study journey you should focus on input and immersion. So focus on reading Japanese and listening to Japanese to improve your passive vocabulary and understanding.
Another good technique to use is shadowing to improve your pronunciation and get speaking practice early.
Once you have a good grasp of basic Japanese you should focus more on output and language production. So focus on speaking Japanese and journaling (typing or writing) in Japanese to improve your active vocabulary and use Japanese.
